Economic and Social Research CouncilMy research focuses on men in prison who have a conviction for rape. I have undertaken life history interviews at two UK prisons with male sexual offenders in order to elicit a better understanding, from the perspectives of the offenders, of the causes of sexual violence. With the reformulation of the Sex Offender Treatment Programme into ‘Kaizen’ and ‘Horizon’, this is a particularly useful time to consider and explore the criminogenic needs of this population of sexual offenders.
My research also focuses on the notion of ‘sexual consent’, ‘shame’ and desistance.
