Nonviolent PeaceforceUnarmed Civilian Protection (UCP) is a nonviolent approach to civilian protection which centres around non-partisanship and the primacy of local actors. Through capacity development, monitoring, relationship building and proactive engagement, UCP aims to protect civilians from the immediate threat of harm and create the space for local peace initiatives. My project will examine the possibilities of expanding UCP to increase the safety and security of more civilians in armed conflict, and the difficulties of upscaling a practice which is centred around civilian communities and their local peace infrastructures.
