ESRC StudentshipThe inability to effectively regulate emotions is linked to lower academic performance, chronic stress and anxiety in children. Research into mindfulness based programmes for adults suggests that mindfulness training can enhance mental health and wellbeing through cultivating effective emotion regulation skills. My research will examine the impact of a school based mindfulness programme on emotional wellbeing in primary school children. I will be focusing particularly on how mindfulness affects the neural basis of emotional processing in children in order to further the understanding of the neurocognitive mechanisms of mindfulness.
