Course Content and Aims
This session will provide an introduction to the role of social science research in policy processes, including evidence-based policy making. It will consider the origins and theory underlying evidence-based policy making and the challenges of implementing this in everyday practice. The session will be primarily of interest to those in the social sciences but as the Welsh Government has researchers from all disciplines working within it, others are welcome to attend.

- Wales DTC Postgraduate Social Science research students, i.e. students registered at Aberystwyth, Bangor, Cardiff or Swansea Universities: free of charge
- Non ESRC funded postgraduate social science research students registered at a UK HEI: free of charge
- Non social-science postgraduate research students: £15.00
- Staff at HEI’s, ESRC funded researchers, UK registered charities £30.00
- Others £75.00
Bookings
The session is aimed at DTC and ESRC-funded research students at the Universities of Aberystwyth, Bangor, Cardiff and Swansea who will have priority for places but others are welcome to attend, space permitting. The session will be available via live stream at Aberystwyth, Bangor and Swansea, and will be recorded. Students at Aberystwyth, Bangor and Swansea – book a space through the DTC website. Students at Cardiff University – book through the UGC booking system.
