Content and Aims\nOver the past few years the idea that academic research
should prove that it has had ‘impact’ on the broader\, non-academic co
mmunity has gained considerable momentum\, with applications for RCUK gran
ts now having to outline the ways in which such impact will be achieved\,
and research funding for departments depending\, in part\, on evidence of
impact. Given that current PhD students will look to join an academic worl
d where impact is part of the environment\, the aim of this workshop is to
introduce students to the concept of impact\, how its use varies between
different funding bodies\, as well as outlining particular methods they mi
ght use to engage with non-academic audiences and build an impact profile
for their research.\nLearning Outcomes\nStudents will be able to explain t
he basic nature of impact debates in the UK and their broader context and
will be able to outline ways in which they might gain impact for their own
research.\nCost\n\n	Wales DTC Postgraduate Research students\, i.e. stude
nts registered at Aberystwyth\, Bangor\, Cardiff or Swansea Universities:
free of charge\n	Postgraduate Social Science Research students registered
at a UK HEI: £15.00\n\nDeadline for receipt of bookings\nFriday 3rd May.
This workshop is aimed at DTC and ESRC-funded research students at Aberyst
wyth\, Bangor\, Cardiff and Swansea who will have priority for places but
others are welcome to attend\, space permitting.
