SUMMARY:Home Office International Crime and Policing Conference
DESCRIPTION:The main conference theme is Modern Crime Prevention.\n\n\nCrim
 e is falling and it is also changing\, and so must our approach to crime 
 prevention. Although what one might call 'traditional' acquisitive crime a
 nd violence have fallen dramatically in the UK and across much of the west
 ern world\, we face two significant challenges. Firstly\, the internet and
  new technology offer criminals\, particularly organised criminals\, the s
 cope to offend on an unprecedented scale and across jurisdictions. Secondl
 y\, there is an urgent need to do more to tackle the victimisation of vuln
 erable people through crimes that have often been under-reported in the pa
 st\, such as domestic abuse\, child abuse and slavery. In that context\, d
 eveloping a modern approach to preventing crime and reducing harm must be 
 one of our highest priorities.\n\nThe conference will be based around the 
 six key drivers of crime (opportunity\, character\, profit\, drugs\, alcoh
 ol and the effectiveness of the Criminal Justice System) and related activ
 ities that can prevent crime happening in the first place.\nFurther inform
