DESCRIPTION:Harnessing the Extractive Industries for Development in sub-Sah
 aran Africa 2017 (EX4DEV17) is the 2nd ESRC-funded interdisciplinary wor
 kshop to foster dialogue and nurture collaboration between PhD researchers
 \, academics and practitioners. It will be held over one-day combined wit
 h an evening panel discussion and networking event. The conference is ope
 n to all participants with an interest in the development of the extractiv
 es industries. It builds on the success of last year's workshop\, which b
 rought together over 40 PhD researchers\, leading academics and expert ind
 ustry practitioners at the University of Surrey Business School.\n\nEX4DEV
 17 focuses on the importance of understanding the people\, power and polit
 ics that shape the response of agencies\, government and the private secto
 r\, and the design of development programmes within the extractive industr
