The Wales DTC was pleased to host a PhD student poster competition at the WISERD Conference… and the winner was Amy Jones with her poster on Walking Wales.
Amy received a cash prize of £200 from The Learned Society of Wales, the competition sponsor. Dr Lynn Williams presented the certificate and prize. A slideshow of images from the poster competition and the presentation can be viewed on the WISERD website.
Amy, who is an ESRC-funded student of the Wales DTC at Swansea University, is researching “Walking Wales: Global Positioning and Sense of Space”. This looks at how the physical act of walking the newly completed Wales Coast Path creates a sense of identity. “I am particularly interested in issues of mobility and movement and how walking unhindered along a continuous coast path could connect people to Wales, facilitating a feeling of belonging to the land and to the Welsh nation. I am also interested in discovering if walking along the same route/sharing the same space establishes a relationship and unites all those who walk the Wales Coast Path.”
