The British Sociological Association and the BBC Radio 4 programme Thinking Allowed have announced the creation of a new Award for Ethnography, to recognise the most influential study by a UK researcher.

The British Sociological Association/BBC Thinking Allowed award will recognise the study that has had the biggest influence in ethnography, and the winner will receive a cheque for £1,000.

Entry is open to all UK resident postgraduate researchers, as well as teachers and researchers employed at UK higher education institutions.

The judges will be looking for flair and originality as well as sound methodology and clarity. The panel, chaired by Professor Laurie Taylor, also comprises Professor Dick Hobbs, Professor Henrietta Moore, Dr Louise Westmarland and Professor Bev Skeggs. A shortlist of 6 will be selected, from which a winner will be announced in April 2014.
